Mary was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina and has worked at Duke for 23 years. Twenty-one of those years were served in the Medical Records Department.  Mary became a widow when her husband passed away 11 years ago.  However, she finds great joy in her son and two grandsons.  Once fearful of working at the reception desk at Student Health, Mary has settled into her role and now considers it one of the more enjoyable aspects of her job.  She really likes working with students.  She says the students are a lot like her son.  They have a lot to learn and she feels like a second mother to many of them.  When Mary is not at Student Health, she frequents various drag racing strips all around North Carolina.
