The Devil's Choice Program
What is the Devil’s Choice Program?
The Devil’s Choice Program makes it easy for busy, on-the-go students to identify healthy, satisfying snack options. Food items that meet the nutrition criteria are labeled in the Lobby Shop in the Bryan Center, the East Campus Store, and Uncle Harry's on Central Campus.
Nutrition Criteria for Devil’s Choice Snacks:
Items that meet all of these criteria are labeled with 1 of the 3 Devil’s Choice logos.
- Minimum of 2g fiber per serving or 6g of protein per serving
- Maximum of 300 calories per snack
- Zero trans fat
Devil’s Choice Drink criteria:
- Water
- Skim, 1%/lowfat, and soy milk
What is a Satisfying Snack?
A balanced snack includes food that contains carbohydrates and protein. Carbohydrates provide quick energy and protein helps maintain energy levels. The combination is satisfying and will keep you felling fuller longer. Healthy fats are also a part of a healthy diet and are included in many of the Devil’s Choice Snacks.
There are 3 Devil’s Choice Logos:
- Individual sized snacks that are already balanced (with protein and carbohydrates) are marked with a full Devil’s Choice Logo.
- Carbohydrate choices are marked with an orange half of the logo.
- Protein choices are marked with a blue half of the logo.
There are many balanced combinations available at Duke Stores or in your fridge:
Why snacks?
Timing is important.
- Many students are busy with class, work and meetings throughout the day and go long periods without eating.
- Skipping meals can lead to low energy, hunger, poor concentration, overeating late in the day, and/or weight gain.
- Fueling up every 3-4 hours can help keep your metabolism and energy level up and help you avoid getting over hungry.
