HPV Vaccine
HPV Vaccine Coverage AlertDuke Student Health has recently learned that in order to be an “in network” provider for BCBSNC we (Student Health's Business Office) must file all claims for the HPV vaccine. We have been filing the claims since the middle of September and are now working on reimbursing students that paid us “up front”. Because there is a deductible of $150, not all students will receive money back. Student should expect to receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from BCBS (or your company for those not insured by BCBSNC) and a bill from the Duke Private Diagnostic Clinic. Student Health does not send bills. Students with additional questions should contact Jean Hanson, Administrative Director, at 919-681-WELL.
HPV VaccineThe Student Health Center now has Gardasil (R), the new Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, available for Duke students. Per the HPV Vaccine Information Sheet published by the CDC, "HPV Vaccine can prevent most cases of genital warts and most cases of cervical cancer." This immunization is available to female Duke students up to age 26. It is a series of 3 shots, and the cost is $185 per shot without insurance. Check with your insurance company to see if it is covered under your plan.
