Achieving Life Balance

Do you feel as if something is missing? Do you feel stressed out most of the time? It can seem difficult to have a balanced life while in college. This program focuses on what it means to achieve life balance and how an unbalanced life can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms, specifically disordered eating. This program asks the participants to look at their own lives and begins a dialog about how to achieve balance in life.

How to Help a Friend

This program focuses on establishing a better understanding of the psychological aspects and signs/symptoms of eating disorders. With this as a foundation, it then suggests ways of helping those with disordered eating or poor body image and how to help your self. It looks at what to do and say, the resources available, and how to be a supportive friend, not an antagonist or an enabler.

Looking Beyond the Mirror...Embrace Your True Self

Have you seen the “Embrace Your True Self” mirrored display in the Bryan Center and wondered why it is there? Or have you seen the display and begun to discuss body image issues with yourself or your friends? What are you already doing that may be positive or negative in regards to promoting a positive body image environment? Talk about how the Duke culture plays into how people feel about themselves and others. Is there a bad body image climate on campus? And if so, how can we change that? This is a great presentation for large groups who like to talk.
